The Department of Mechanical is headed by Mayana Pacha Khan with 11 years teaching experience. Under his leadership the department is strengthen by well experience and highly qualified teaching and non- teaching staff.

 

The department of Mechanical Engineering had its inception on July 2011 with an initial intake of just 60 students. The department gradually flourished, nourishing young minds by the team work of dynamic and experienced faculty members who paved the roads of success.Further in the year 2012, increased the B.Tech. intake to 120 students aided with “state–of-the-art” Laboratories and Computational facilities in all core fields of Mechanical Engineering. In the year 2014, the department expanded its horizon with a PG course in Machine Design(24 seats).

 

The department boasts of its alumni placed around the globe in MNC’s, and Public sector companies setting new standards in life and work. Considerable portion are with higher studies in prestigious institutes at home and abroad. Currently the department is backed up by 26 highly qualified and motivated teaching and 5 non- teaching staff.

 

The strength of the department lies in its dedicated, skilled and experienced faculty drawn from various industries and reputed institutes and its workshops and labs. The labs in the mechanical department are the ideal places where students prepare for the future. We do provide the best working condition with all the latest gadgets. The lab and workshop facilities in the department are as under :Material Testing Lab, Applied Mechanical Lab, Fluid Mechanics Lab, Thermal Lab, Metallographic Lab, Hydraulics machines Lab, Heat Engine Lab, CAD CAM Lab.

 

1.ENGINEERINGWORKSHOP

The Workshops includes elementary and basic concepts of practical side of Mechanical Engineering.

In the carpentry section students undergo training in making wooden joints and shapes. In the fitting section students practice making metallic joints and shapes by filing and cutting small metal specimen.

In the smithy section students are trained to make different metal shapes like bolt head etc by heating the specimen in the furnace and forging it on the anvil. In Tin smithy section students are trained to make articles such as Funnels, Boxes, Hoppers, Guards and Ducts etc.

2.MECHANICS-OF-SOLID This laboratory, containing materials testing machines, is used to introduce students to material properties through actual testing of specimens. The department uses this lab in support of several courses where this type of experimentation is used like testing of the materials, assessing its property and analyzing whether it confirms to the standards given by BIS codes. The main equipment includes:

  3. 3.Impact Testing Machine
  4. 4.Rockwell Hardness Testing Machine
  5. 5.Brinell Hardness Testing Machine
  6. 6.Spring Testing Machine
3.METALLURGY-LABORATORY To impart practical exposure on the preparation and observation of microstructures of various materials and their hardness evaluation and also this lab offers the practical knowledge on the various heat treatment processes like annealing, normalizing, aging etc. The experiments are done on both ferrous and non-ferrous metals to differentiate their responses to heat treatment processes. The main equipment includes:

  2. 2.Mounting press
  3. 3.Abrasive belt grinder
  4. 4.Hand polishing stand
  5. 5.Disc polishing machine
  6. 6.Etchants
  7. 7.Muffle furnace
  8. 8.Jominy quench test apparatus
4.PRODUCTION-TECHNOLOGY-LABORATORY The objective of this laboratory is to impart hands-on practical exposure on primary manufacturing processes such as casting, joining, forming, etc. and their relevance in current manufacturing industry and understanding the various processing methods of plastics. This lab provides an introduction to welding technology with an emphasis on basic welding laboratory principles and operating procedures. The main experiments include: industrial safety and health practices, hand tool and power machine use, welding power sources, and introduction to welding codes and standards. In the foundry section students practice making sand moulds which enables casting of metal. The main facilities are as follows.

5.FLUIDMECHANICS&HYDRAULICMACHINERY This Lab is intended to make the students aware of the all the aspects which comes under the fluid flow. The experiments include flow measurement, practical applications of the basic principles of fluid mechanics and the study of major tools used. The hydraulics lab comprises of the performance tests of pumps and load tests on turbine test rigs. The Major equipments include:

  3. Venturimeter
  4. Orificemeter
  5. Impact of Jet On Vanes
  6. Test Rigs of Francis Turbine
  7. Pelton Turbine
  8. Centrifugal Pumps

6.THERMAL-ENGINEERING-LABORATORY This lab makes the student understand about the design concepts and principles of various engine components. It also imparts basic knowledge to students with respect to transmission system of automobiles and will enable the student to understand the latest developments in the field. This lab promotes the ability to select the appropriate strategy and equipment needed to perform a repair task. The Thermal Engineering lab comprises of the performance tests on various engines. The Major equipments include:
  1. Four Stroke single cylinder water cooled Diesel engine
  2. Multi Cylinder Four Stroke 3 Cylinder Petrol Engine Test Rig
  3. Variable Compression Ratio Petrol Engine Test Rig
  4. Two stroke single cylinder air cooled Petrol engine

7.MACHINE-TOOLS-LABORATORY The objective of Machine Tool Lab is to train students with different operations that can be carried out on lathe, Drilling and milling machine .The students are well trained to prepare the models on lathe and milling machine. Also to study the principle of operation, work holding and different operations of reciprocating machines like slotter and shaper. The Major equipments include:

8.HEAT-TRANSFER-LABORATORY This lab teaches the use of instrumentation and apparatus that are unique and/or special to the field of heat transfer. It demonstrates the fundamental aspects of heat transfer and employ’s experimental principles and thought processes to solve engineering problems. The Major equipments include:
  1. Heat Transfer through Composite Walls Apparatus
  2. Heat Transfer through Lagged Pipe Apparatus
  3. Thermal Conductivity of Insulating Powder Model
  4. Thermal Conductivity of Metal Bar Model

9.INSTRUMENTATION&METROLOGY This lab enables students to be familiar with the concepts of measurement. Students are trained to handle different measurement instruments like strain gauges etc. The importance of dimensions in the industry and a close study of accuracy during manufacturing and machining various mechanical components. They also gain knowledge about different measuring devices like sine bar, vernier caliper etc. The Major equipments include:

10.SIMULATION-LABORATORY Computer aided design and drafting is an essential industrial requirement as a part of technological development. The department has a well-equipped computer laboratory With advanced CAD softwares such as AUTOCAD etc. This Lab also includes CNC laboratory. It is designed according to the state of the art technology and offers training on CNC Trainer lathe and 3 axes Milling Machine.
11.MACHINEDYNAMICS-LABORATORY The objective of mechanical engineering lab is to impart practical knowledge on the working of some basic instruments that are worked based on basic principles of engineering. This lab gives thorough idea about some principles that they already studied in B.Tech.. Students become aware about the practical applications of Mechanical Engineering branch in our day to day life.

12.DESIGNPRACTICE LABORATORY
